COMMON CORE CURRICULUM

On April 26th, 2012 I attended a State School Board special meeting held in Salt Lake City. The purpose of the meeting was to allow the public to express concerns regarding the state adopted Common Core Curriculum. http://connect.schools.utah.gov/p3rrfrveqyd/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=normal The reason the meeting was initiated was in response to some 1600 signatures of people with concerns. What I witnessed were some exceptional teachers and educational institutions lined up on one side of the room to laud the merits of CCC. On the other side parents expressed sincere questions driven by legitimate research and evidence of significance. I was dismayed at the emotional dialectic. There was merit on both sides of the aisle. Yet emotion seemed to rule over reason often times. Interestingly enough, I learned that the CCC is in the public domain and can be accessed regardless as to weather Utah was legally tied to a multi-state consortium or not. The educators were so intent on lauding the merits of the standards and curriculum that they seemed to overlook that aspect. Now my degree is in education. Although my teaching career was very short, still I come from a family of educators. So you can understand my consternation at how this issue seemed to have broken down. Maybe I expected the educators to have more openess and patience. I suppose if one thought that the choice was either CCC or not, I could understand the passion. I am really hoping that the educational establishment can stand down on the legitimate issues raised by parents and engage in a healthy meeting of the minds to bring resolution. It would be quite sad to win the battle of maintaining CCC as now implemented minimalizing and disregarding the parental concerns and find some day that indeed freedom has been lost. Also, there seemed to be so few members of the board attending this public hearing. I counted five or six out of 15. For me as a candidate for county commission, the issues are two. First, will the costs associated with the assessment element of CCC be so great as to increase property taxes? Secondly, I have read through aspects of the Life Skills put out by the State Office of Education. Read it yourself. If you are a student of the US Constitution and other forms of government, you might see the issues that I do. I happen to believe in the merits of the individual freedoms inherent to our Republic as opposed to the manipulated consensus process of a social democracy. All of us, parents and teachers alike should understand where the curriculum is coming from and be open to each others thoughts. It is the pseudo-sophistication that leads students away from critical thinking the uplifts to critical thinking that one can only wonder about. FEDERAL FUNDING OF EDUCATION
In July of 2009 $4.35 billion was awarded to 12 states from the federal stimulus package. Why? The 10th amendment to the Constitution gives education as a responsibility of the individual states and not the federal government. Do these two mothers raise valid issues? Republic or Dumbocracy?Several years ago I reviewed the Utah K-2 curriculum. This was prior to CCC. In the social studies element the word democracy was defined. The word Republic was not included. I contacted the State School Board and suggested that the word Republic be included. My suggestion was disregarded. I was disregarded. I asked for clarification as to why not define Republic. The response was that the children could not comprehend such a complex term. It is so good to have the Mike Morley's, Carl Wimmer's and others who were there taking action. Now I had read Madison in Federalist Papers #10. He says, "If a faction consists of less than a majority, relief is supplied by the republican principle, which enables the majority to defeat its sinister views by regular vote: It may clog the administration, it may convulse the society; but it will be unable to execute and mask its violence under the forms of the Constitution." What exactly was going on here? If you do not understand how important this issue is check out the video to the right.

There is a book titled, The Leipzig Connection by Paola Lioni. It is a short read. Could it be true? I challenge you to read it. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/36276505/The-Leipzig-Connection---Systematic-Destruction-of-the-American-Education

Life SkillsJanuary 6, 2006 the Utah State Office of Education published Life Skills A Guide to Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions for Success for K-12. The ideas reflected in this document quantified the attributes of a well educated person. In order to function successfully in today's global economy, students are to have their behaviors and minds modified to become contributing members of a DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY. We are informed that "education is not solely about academics." Also, The central purpose of education is to develop intellectual, emotional, and social understanding....for the world of work, and promotes the COMMON GOOD OF A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY." Under the Social and Civic Responsibility section we hear, "Applies democratic processes to work for the common good." No wonders the School Board did not want to allow Republic to be defined.

Apparently some parents and community members were included in the advisory committee. I wonder if any of these people could defind the term republic. Let me further explain. I would hope that none of us wants to be competetive in a "global economy" if it means giveing up our God-given freedom, because that is exactly what a 'democracy' will do. Teachers and administrators ,can you not appreciate what message is really being sent to you? Nationalism, not international globalism is what affords us the document that restrains government to a rational size where people are valued to think for themselves right or wrong; and which establishes laws to protect the same. CCC unquestionably had wonderful elements to it. That is why teachers and administrators like it. But, this seed to globalization through environmental incentives is one of the biggest lies ever told, ever SOLD to subtly divert us into communitarianism that we are suggesting will not lead to full and happy lives. "...academic knowledge is not sufficiently comprehensive to prepare a child for the complex future and a lifetime of learning, and the resultant benefits of a quality holistic education." No sir! You overreach! Please do not allow your academic degrees and intelligence be usurped to further an agenda woven within the silver threads of CCC. If nothing else, practice what Life Skills advocates. "Seek informed and reasoned opinions about a variety of issues. Willingly recognize different points of view in a positive manner. And, willingly and appropriately respond to the needs of others." We see the good parts of Life Skills. We acknowledgy your expertice and sincerity. Just remember that we is us together. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=XNUc8nuo7HI
How could CCC and what is happening in the educational arena be on the radar of a County Commissioner candidate? Does this fall within the scope of the responsibilities of a county commissioner? If Utah Lake was being polluted, would the county commission become involved? You bet your knickers that they would. If the minds of our children in Utah County are being trained to believe in democratic socialism over republicanism and the constitution, county commissioners need to be involved. I will address property tax issues in another issues section. For now, let me just say tha, implementation of the evaluation element of CCC is going to cost money. How much? Nobody can say exactly. Will it increase property tax? There are indications that the cost of this element alone could affect property tax. If I am incorrect on this, someone please help me see the error of my way. I believe that the State School Board was considering Smart Balance federal funding for a reason.
If you want to hear the perspective that I stand behind and understand why I raise this as a legitimate campaign issue, please check out the videos at this web page. http://www.utahnsagainstcommoncore.com/videos-on-common-core/

THE TIE BETWEN EDUCATION AND AGENDA 21![]() How does one integrate sustainability with education? The textbook U.S. Decade of Education For Sustainability Development is Agenda 21 for children. It has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education and teaches consensus instead of independent thinking. Don't believe me? Go to http://www.uspartnership.org/main/view_archive/1

CONSENSUS OVER INDEPENDENT THINKING![]() - Wealth is socially unjust.
-Man is destroying the envriornment. -Man is causing global warming. -Women and girls are marginalized. The curriculum approved by the US Department of Education teaches chilren that one is not allowed to challenge the above ideas. |
WHERE DO UTAH COUNTY SCHOOLS STAND?

I wish that there were two of me to do the necessary research. I don't know where Utah County schools are regarding this issue yet. I hope to find out before November. What I do know is that one evening at a school board meeting I watched an elementary school debate team focused on the topic of sustainability and climate change issues. I checked out two of the organizations the children used for resource material and they were spot on the bad side of Agenda 21 and the climate change hoax these precious children accepted as truth. In the Education For Sustainable Development Tool Kit, http://www.esd.org.uk/esdtoolkit/default.aspx Rosalyn McKewen states, "Education is an essential tool for sustainability." Another of her statements is, "Generally, more highly educated people, who have higher incomes, consume more resources than poorly educated people, who tend to have lower incomes. In this case more education increases the threat to sustainability." The global economy seems to demand children progress from school to work without questioning? Now I know many teachers will roll their eyes at this. But, as you roll those eyes, open them to the next quote from the text book titled, Getting to Know Connected Math which is also approved by the US Department of Education, "They learn that mathematics is man-made, that it is arbitrary, and good solutions are arrived at by consensus among those who are expert. p 17. I am getting to understand the consensus concept of Agenda 21. It is a manipulative methodology to manage small groups of people compared to total populations in order to arrive at a predeterminde outcome all while telling the public that it is the combined desire of the people. Only a vote of the entire people who have had a chance to educate themselves regarding an issue qualifies as common consensus; not the few involved citizens and selected stakeholders. Teachers, do not take offense. We are part of you. And you are part of us. We are in this together. You are wonderful. We love you. We need your passion to see what may not easily be seen. My voice is simply a voice to raise awareness and warning for the common good of us all. http://whatiscommoncore.wordpress.com/2012/06/27/common-core-science-reforms-implement-united-nations-directives-for-host-countries-via-microsoft/
Now I realize that No Child Left Behind is not Common Core Curriculum. Neither is it Obamacare or socialized medicine. But, there is something in the process that needs to be understood. I have served on committees only to see people opening up the envelope of agenda items for the first time as they sat down to begin the meeting. No prior awareness, reading of the material let alone a comprehensive grasp of the issues on the agenda. Why is modern day legislation coming at our representatives in such volume with such a sense of urgency that the content is left until after the vote to try to scrutinize, or leave to administrative staffers to implement? Is there an agenda afoot? If not, are we simply inept? If it were not for the open debate during the ratification of the Federal Constitution where the Anti-Federalists were able to promote their insightful sense of reason to the individual rights debate, we would not be the benericiaries of a Bill of Rights. Listen to Rand's reasoning....

Another Brick In The Wall

"After the disastrous "Climategate" scandal--revealing undeniable fraud by top global warming proponents--many Americans declared victory over the radical left, which has long pushed for draconian new government controls on the human race under the pretext of preventing an apocalypse due to human-caused "climate change. The fraud involved and the dangers to freedom and prosperity posed by this movement are great. Despite the Climategate scandal and ever-increasing body of evidence and scientists refuting the radical global-warming agenda, a renewed ush by those peddling this hoax is in the wings. If you control carbon, you control life. Knowing this, proponents have displayed no shame in using phony science, citing spurious data, intimidating critics and fabricating convenient lies in pursuit of what they see as a noble and glorious goal." So we are warned by U.S. Senator James Inhofe. Now we know that Agenda 21 is hidden behind the mask of environmentalism. The lie of global warming was replaced by climate change to euphamize and mask the lie. Now your children in the state of Utah are being introduced to yet another euphamism with a little more emphasis----RAPID CLIMATE CHANGE. The discredited hocky stick graphs of man-made global warming requiring the 'fair-share' effort of all the nations of the world are alive and well in Utah County Schools. If you would like to see it for yourself, click on http://www.uen.org/climate/videos.shtml. Watch out where you step. Your carbon footprint will smudge the landscape.
Not for one moment would I suggest that we squander and misuse energy. That is the dilema with so many of these issues. We need to husband our energy use. Many of us are negligent in this area of consumption. My wife and I have one compact vehicle between us. We ride bicycles when we can. We like to recycle, etc. Many of these concepts are spot on. We need to be mindful of our energy consumption for sure. But, we also need to be vigilent to the subtle political agenda that is being taught to our children which warps their world view and conditions them to be controlled by false assumptions and erroneous Aagenda 21 politically motivated theories. http://truthinamericaneducation.com/common-core-state-standards/wyoming-proves-that-common-core-is-a-federal-led-initiative/

THESE ARE OUR CHILDREN NOT THE STATE'S.![]() The role of parent is a large. The worldview that we give to our children will be with them. They need our love and protection. It is possible that the world view that we instill in them is not perfect. It might be very imperfect. There are those who have a different world view who think that they know better. Rather than convince us of the virtue of their vision, they would force it upon us. I believe that a county commissioner should be aware of and involved in this issue of Common Core Curriculum if for no other reason than the potential increase in taxes. http://www.utahnsagainstcommoncore.com/stop-the-common-core/

Left Behind. In addition, it would appear that public education is being assaulted with private monies from organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Just like the Rockafeller and Carnagie Foundations, these monies not only have a catch, but specific agendas that one can scrutinize in a book I have already referred you to and will review at a future date on this issues page titled, The Leipzig Connection by Paolo Lionni. The process of adopting CCC did not include a legislative session or vote as the time frames were limited. The overall program was presented to the Education Legislative Interim Committee and went through the State School Board beginning in the fall of 2009 and ending in their adoption in August of 2010. Apparently the state education hierarchy was trying to meet a specific invitation in Race to the Top grand monies by adopting CCC and were following a timetable which was not met and RTTT funds were not qualified for. http://keepingourkidssafe.co/kids-safe/the-3-utah-moms-fighting-the-good-fight/
As a candidate for Utah County Commission one of my main issues with CCC is the cost of the assessment element and the potential of increased property taxes. This issue still remains unanswered for me. Smarter Balance Assessment was the preferred assessment package for Utah since PARC, a Florida based program was too traditional and was not computer adaptive although it was cheaper. Both were funded with Department of Education monies. Also nationalized tests will determine curriculum. They have to. Currently although there has not been a specific analysis done, potential assessment costs could be $31 per student per year as opposed to the current cost of $7 per student per year. Of course the Utah State School Board decided not to adopt Smarter Balance, which should not be problematic with legal constraints according to Patty Harrington. ( As a side note, Park City School District will be giving personal computers to all students 6-12. They will probably not go back to text books and are going to digital textbooks. They have more to spend than a district like Alpine. This is one of the disparities in the property tax system in the state of Utah that I raise in my analysis of phasing out property tax under issues.)
This is not a comprehensive review of the symposium; rather spotlights on a couple of key issues. You can access more information at HousePowell.com. Hoping that Kraig makes his video available on his web page for your review. Let me finally just day that the issue of privacy was raised. In June of 2009 Arnie Duncan stated that the goal is someday the DoE will be able to track a student fromK-20. This is his policy vision. Utah SB 290, Utah Futures Act will play a part in future discussions regarding this issue. What I witnessed most of all was a softening of emotions on both sides as direct information was shared. It would appear that state administrative educators are beginning to recognize that the parents concerns are not only legitimate, but coincidental with their own apprehensions of federal strings and intrusions recognized with No Child Left Behind. These issues, like Agenda 21, are often subtle and need a keen eye to visualize the monster pirate who is too big to board the ship. Want to know more about pirates? BEING COMPITETIVE IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY?![]() John D. Rockefeller Jr and Frederick T. Gates teamed up in the early 1900s to utilize the vast Rockefeller money to influence education in America. Does the source of money for education matter? "Control, through possession of the millions massed in the Educational Trust, of two or three or four times as many millions of dollars in education makes possible control of the machinery and the methods of education. It makes it possible for the central controlling body to determine the whole character of American education, the textbooks to be used, the aims to be emphasized...it gives the financial controller power to impose upon its beneficiaries its own views, good or bad, and thereby to dominate public opinion in social, economic and political matters." From Manufacturers' Record February 8, 1917.

What Does Common Core Curriculum Have To Do With a County Commissioner?Anything that will potentially increase property tax is on my radar scope. My goal is to begin the process to eliminate property tax. I have outlined some ideas on how to fund education without property tax. CCC assessment tools could increase the cost of eduation greatly. Secondly, all elected officials should have an interest in education since the same social engineering aspects of Agenda 21 are within the political aspects of CCC which will take Utah County in to our future. We all seem to be living within an envrionment where we are afraid to be wrong. Mistakes are not allowed. My understanding of 'cooperative learning' methods as well as promoting 'democratic socialism' in the public school system now makes it my business.

OAK NORTON---SOCIALISM IS A RELIGION OF GREED!In Section 3 paragraph four of the Utah State Enabling Act of 1894 it states that, "provisions shall be made for the establishment and maintenance of a system of public schools, which shall be open to all children of said State and free from sectarian control." Public schools have been around a long time. Oak referrs to two great books. One is The Law. The other is The Leipzig Connection. Each of these books is short and sweet, but monumental in content. Please consider reading them, especially if you are an educator. Is it possible for a federalized school system to be used more for political indoctrination than education? Is democratic socialism a legitimate goal of an educational system in Utah County? I recall being taught about Pavlov and his behavioral conditioning and hearing that the main goal of the teacher was to change the behavior of the student as an education student at BYU in 1973. I had questions then. I have more now. Do you?

Oak Norton has been a champion for educating us and fighting for parental influence in standards and curriculum being coincidental to individual and family freedom and strength.

COMMON CORE'S GLOBAL AGENDALet me introduce you to a hero of mine---Alisa Ellis. My wife and I met Alisa at a Crown Burger one evening several months ago after a State School Board meeting in Salt Lake where she was speaking her studied truths. In the video to the right she speaks about a UNIFIED GLOBAL EDUCATION SYSTEM. In fact education is one of the last bastions of state power and sovereignty which is under assault from.....well you figure out who is assaulting your right as a parent to establish the values for the children they sire. Could there be a few involved in a neoplatonic oligarchy bent on controlling the many, intent on ordering society based on their values which go unquestioned in their minds? Is there such a thing as a free lunch? Have we become a CASH FOR CLUNKERS SOCIETY wanting to be FREE FROM THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT UNAVOIDABLY ACCOMPANIES FREEDOM? Race to the top of this video and don't get left behind. Agenda 21 and CCC are tied at the hip. Go figure! Are there those who feel superior of mind or rank or wealth who feel their concept of virtue is the one and only truth? Plato felt his view social engineering Utopia was indeed the one truth. For all the recent ABE Conference talks including Jesse Fisher's go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5W9V5zPlJks

"For a young person cannot judge what is allegorical and what is literal; anything that he receives into his mind at that age is likely to become indelible and unalterable; and therefore it is most important that the tales which the young first hear should be modles of virtuous thoughts" Plato
Let us all dedicate more time to study with our children every evening, get involved in their schools, attend school board meetings, review district budgets, and generally get involved. |
Teachers and CCC![]() I attended the State School Board meeting in SLC about six months ago where parents and teachers spoke in a public hearing regarding CCC. It was sad to see teachers and administrators seated on one side of the auditorium and parents on the other. The dialectic was in full force. Emotion ran high. Divide and conquer is the motto of the controllers. Are we being controlled? Is there something that open minds should grasp? When one is benifitting from a system, will it cloud the vision to certain realities that contort cooperative problem solving and close minds like bank vaults? Here is one courageous teacher in the video to the right who takes a stand. Can you feel his frustration? Can you understand his sacrifice? Is he eccentric? Or is there some course correcting that needs to be considered to overhaul the system? Could this be you some day? Is it possible that we see only those things that we are looking for and/or benefiting in some way from, so much so that we sometimes see them where they are not? If there is a hidden agenda that is a parasite to the wonderful parts of the standards that teachers thrive on? Sooner or later those things that are used to hide a thing serve only to advertise it. Discovering the truth of a matter too late can become a sad reflection. Dispell the dialectic! Find common ground! Win!

What Exactly Is The Problem?![]() Anybody, and I mean anybody who wants to truly understand the issue of CCC from an historical perspective cannot connect the dots without reading The Leipzig Connection. It is a very short booklet packed with precise and pertinent information.

Common Core Curriculum and Agenda 21---Both Branches of the Same Tree?

Agenda 21 local planning has it's roots in the United Nations. Could Common Core Curriculum have had it's roots in the United Nations also? I will quote from a book titled The Rise of Global Governance by Henry Lamb. He simply quotes words spoken by those who promote democratic socialism. He begins, "While the U.N. organization was expanding exponentially, out of the media spotlight which was focused on race riots and the arms race, UNESCO plodded forward with its mission to educate the world. Robert Muller, long-time Secretary-General of the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council under which the UNESCO operates, delivered a speach at the University of Denver in 1995. His musings and recollections provide valuable insights into the kind of education UNESCO was preparing for the world. From Muller's comments:
"I had written an essay which was circulated by UNESCO, and which earned me the title of 'Father of Global Education.' I was educated badly in France. I've come to the conclusion that the only correct education that I have received in my life was from the United Nations. We should replace the word politics by planetics. We need planetary management, planetary caretakers. We need global sciences. We need a science of a global psychology, a global sociology, a global anthropology. Then I made my proposal for a World Core Curriculum."
The first goal of Muller's World Core Curriculum is:
"Assisting the child in becoming an integrated individual who can deal with personal experience while seeing himself as part of the 'greater whole.' In other words, promote growth of the group idea, so that group good, group understanding, group interrelations and group goodwill replace all limited, self-centered objectives, leading to group consciousness."
The World Core Curriculum Manual says:
"The underlying philosophy upon which the Robert Muller School is based will be found in the teachings set forth in the books of Alice A. Bailey, by the Tibetan teacher, Djwhal Khul (published by Lucis Publishing Company, 113 University Place, 11th floor, New York, NY 10083) and the teachings of M. Morya as given in the Agni Yoga Series books (published by Agni Yoga Society, Inc,. 319 West 107th Street, New Your, NY 10025)."
Alice Bailey established the Lucifer Publishing Company, which was renamed Lucis Press in 1924, expressly to publish and distribute her own writings and those of Djwhal Khul, which consisted of some 20 books written by Bailey as the "channeling" agent for the disembodied Tibetan she called Djwhal Khul. Until recently, the Lucis Trust, parent organization of the Lucis Press, was headquartered at the United Nations Plaza in New York. Bailey assumed the leadership of the Theosophical Society upon the death of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. The Society's 6,000 members include Robert McNamara, Donald Regan, Henry Kissinger, David Rockefeller, Paul Volker, George Shultz, and the names that also appear on the membership roster of the CFR.
Hindsight reveals that---while the United States was performing on the U.N. stage, sparing with the Soviet Union, keeping score with nuclear warheads----the forces which heavily influenced the official policies of both the United States and the United Nations were actually outside both governments: non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Three district NGO influences were clear by the end of the 1960s: the CFR and its assortment of affiliated spin-off organizations; the mystic occult, or "new-age" spiritual movement; and the growing number of organizations affiliated with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In 1968, the IUCN led a lobbying effort with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (headed by Robert Muller) to adopt Resolution 1296 which grants "consultative" status to certain NGOs. This resolution paved the highway for global governance. The Lucis Trust was one of the first NGOs to be granted "consultative" status with the U.N."
That is the end of Mr. Lamb's quote. Now for the rest of the story. Two years ago, as part of my personal study regimen and totally apart from my studies regarding government and politics, I ran across and read a lengthy document titled The Externalization of the Hierarchy written by Alice Bailey. I took some time to find out who Alice Bailey was and what organizations might have been behind her efforts, or if her efforts were a solo act. Having immersed myself into her metaphysical worldview in reading her abovementioned work, a piece of the puzzle was placed in my mind and set aside only to be retreived and connected as I read what Mr. Lamb wrote. If you want a flavor of her works and what Mr. Muller is tied to, you can read her work at this web page: http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/sociopolitica/externalisation/contents.html
There really is a big picture to the matrix of deception and illusion that we are faced with in this world that can only be encountered and overcome by objectively revisiting the issues that are before us and digging deeply to uncover the truth of it all. But, we tend to fall into a chimerical dialectic, get emotionally charged in our quest to prove ourselves right no matter how wrong we might be. And if our cause proves virtuous, can we find space to reclaim the opposition lovingly and methodically until the light of love opens their eyes too? I don't speak of acquiescence. I speak of resistance with the proper goal and methodology inherent in the quest. Once we divide ourselves and mentally eat on each other, we have been conquered. Loving, caring objective inquiry coupled with a sincere desire to hear the other side must become the new normal approach. If the process for our righteous cause causes us to lose love and hope, then we truly have been unwittingly conquered by the dialectic. True believers must be willing to scrutinize the reasons to believe so that they are always open to a trial of both pros and cons. Remember that, as we see our Bill of Rights being systematically euphamized and eliminated, it was not the Federalists who gave us those rights in written format. It was the work of the Anti-Federalists who prevailed in the specific stipulation of those ten individual rights. These rights fly in the face of Communitarianism or Socialism. There is an inherent dialectic between the principles of individual freedom based on a particular moral imperative that this nation was founded upon and the goals of group-think and redistribution of wealth promoted by the United Nations. This is the core issue that parents, teachers, administrators and legislators are in the process of determining here in Utah whether they know it or not. Can we not turn down the noise of mental warfare and winning at all costs and allow ourselves to let love be the glue to make life itself bask in the warmth of the love Author of it all? Extending love, even to ones enemy is the only eternal solution to such struggles. Otherwise we are children fighting over children who will continue the cycle of dysfunction.
